Winter 2023 Design Survey
A second round of surveys were widely distributed around the community to solicit feedback on the two concepts of Kanso and Datsuzoku. The purpose of these surveys is to get a feel for whether residents preferred to keep the original integrity of the space intact or allow for a more modern reinterpretation. Respondents were encouraged to specify which elements of each design they liked or disliked most so that a single, cohesive design that incorporates the best elements of both could emerge.
One of the main focal points of the survey was for the type of foliage respondents preferred: (male) ginkgo trees, which provide a larger canopy effect and have a distinctive yellow hue in Autumn, or cherry blossoms, which are an unmistakable representation of Japanese culture. The majority of respondents stated that they would prefer a combination of the two tree types to be present in the redesign.
